We are using the Sonlight first grade read a louds, history, bible and language arts program(I think it is considered the core program). We really enjoy all the great books Sonlight provides! Hooked on Phonics 1st grade. This has been a great program for him and he is flying right though it. He LOVES the songs on the dvd! He really enjoys reading now and I can tell he feels more confident. To make up for the writing, spelling and copy work we have done a couple of different lapbooks. Lapbooks are a wonderful learning tool. They add excitement to the work and sometimes I think Lukes doesn't even realize he is learning.
Lukes also loves doing his Explode The Code Book.
For science we just started Considering God's Creation. It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun! I will post more detail when we get through a bit more of it. We also do random science experiments that look interesting.
We are using Saxon Math 1 and also the Complete Book of Math for grade 1.
